Pioneer Days

Saturday, Oct 24, Jim and Marie invited us to their house for Pioneer Days.
Marie took photos so hopefully we can get some of those to post soon.
We were a small group, but we had fun. There was a lot of food. This really wasn't unexpected considering where we were! I counted 14 varieties of soup! In addition to eating, we schnitzed apples and made apple butter in a copper kettle over an open fire, pulled taffy, made butter, and played games.
McKinzie and Lisa decided that the youth group should have a taffy pull sometime this winter.

Corn Maze

On October 18, 4 girls, 4 boys, and 4 adults went to the "Amazing Maze" corn maze. The family corn maze was fairly easy to get through. By the time we made it through that maze, it was beginning to get dark. Next, we took the hayride through the woods. After the hayride, we warmed ourselves by the fire while we waited for it to get fully dark. Our plans were to go through the scary maze all together, but we were limited to four at a time. The boys went first. The girls and sponsors were very disappointed that we didn't hear any screaming from the boys! The four girls went next. They actually were huddled so closely together that they went as one large person instead of four girls!! They didn't disappoint us! We heard lots of screaming! Then the adults went through. Renell had to be dragged into the maze, but then she didn't even act scared. Disappointing! Allan and Lisa were in the lead and Lisa did enough screaming for all four of the adults! Not only were the people at the maze scaring them, but Allan was doing his share of spooking too!
After the maze, we went back to Walburn's house. Beth had warm drinks for us as well as brownies and cookies. We were able to tell Nathaniel all about the maze since he wasn't able to come with us.
Thanks for the hospitality Sheldon and Beth.

Kidnapping and Initiation for the Freshman

The kidnapping begins with Kiersten. We kidnapped her from a family birthday party!!

The boys all have their paintball masks on.

Next victim, Nathaniel.

Aaron just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. He did not go willingly. Since he is only an 8th grader, he thought it was terribly unfair that he got kidnapped too. That's what you get when you hang out with Jacob.

Jacob was an easy victim compared to Aaron.

Kiersten was a great sport, even when the boys were teasing her.

Back at the house for pizza and other goodies. Ben and Abigail are both going to IU. Chris is the lone PU student. He wasn't able to make it.

Time for the eating contest!

Seniors v Freshman
Abigail is sure she is going to win.
She starts devouring her chocolated covered apple!

Or is it an apple?

Eww! Chocolate covered green tomatoes!!!

Freshman win as Jacob eats the whole thing!!

A little volleyball

And then snipe hunting.
Here snipey, snipey, snipey.

Aaron had Nathaniel believing that the turkey was a snipe.

Ann read the definition for snipe out of the encylopedia!
Yep! It's in there.

Paintball!!

First job - getting all the paperwork done!

Allan - ready to go!

..and we're off..

River Adventure

6 kayaks and 1 canoe made for an afternoon of great fun. We put in at the Spencerville Bridge and followed the river down to Richard and Ruth's house. The hosted us with a warm campfire, great food, and stories about their life. It all made for a great day of fellowship and we look forward to a time when we can do it again.
